Road Safety Initiatives

• Show You Care
This is an extension of the For My Girlfriend campaign and is aimed at the 17-24 age group (a third of all casualties are in this age group). The campaign reminds young drivers of their responsibility to ensure the safety of their passengers, often a girlfriend, and encourages female passengers to ask the driver to slow down if the speed limit is exceeded or they are being put at risk.

What we do

• Pass Plus
Did you know that in the first two years after passing your driving test, newly qualified drivers are more likely to be involved in a crash than at any other time in their driving career? Grants are available to encourage those drivers who have just passed their test to enrol in Pass Plus. Pass Plus is a scheme backed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) and leading insurance companies.

Somerset Road Safety Partnership encourages new drivers to participate in the Pass Plus course by offering grants. Currently £60 is being made available to drivers who are Somerset residents aged under 25. In order to help understand how our attitude and behaviour affect us as drivers, workshops are provided. The workshops are compulsory for any driver wishing to take advantage of the grant.
To book your place on a workshop contact Somerset Road Safety Partnership office for details – roadsafety@somerset.gov.uk or 0844 980 0028. Check Calendar of Events for dates.

To start your Pass Plus training contact your local driving instructor to see if they are registered. The national Pass Plus website can be found at www.passplus.org.uk or see the Yellow Pages for details of which driving schools are registered with the programme.
